Helen’s Story

Helen had just escaped a domestic violence situation, and her life was in shambles. She called us looking for gas cards to help her get her 14-month-old son to a medical appointment at DeVos Hospital in Grand Rapids. We were able to help her through our Transportation Ministry with gas cards and a small blanket and pillow for her son to have for the car trip.

Helen sat down with our Director to discuss her situation and how we could help her move forward. She expressed interest in our Mentorship Program and was willing to meet bi-weekly for guidance. As a result, she has utilized the Hygiene Pantry for hygiene and cleaning products and was able to fix the brakes on her car through our Transportation Ministry.

Helen has become a cherished Love Thy Neighbor family member and says, “A few weeks ago, I felt so helpless. Now I feel so much love & caring from my LTN family and finally have hope that my life can change for myself and my son!”
